Mary Ann Rich Finley, 83, passed away peacefully early Sunday morning July 17, 2016. Mary Ann, also known as Grammie to her nine grandchildren, was born June 8, 1933 in Ogden Utah, to Dorothy Scowcroft and Clark Lowe Rich. She had one sister, Sally Rich Burbidge Cassity, who passed away in 2007.

Mary Ann attended Ogden High School and graduated from Stanford University, majoring in History. She met her future husband Warren Finley while attending Stanford. They married in 1955, settled in Santa Ana, CA, and raised three children: Cheryl Finley, Brent Rich Finley and Suzanne Finley Friend.

Mary Ann led a meaningful life full of love, family and friendship. Mary Ann was extremely active in her community, focusing her efforts on children and education. Her philanthropic spirit and generous support are reflected in the many organizations of which she was an important part. Mary Ann created and funded the Mary Ann Finley Family Foundation, which focuses on educational opportunities for at risk children. She was a life member of the Santa Ana Assistance League, having served in various capacities, including terms as: Treasurer of the Junior Group; Coordinator of the Assisteen Group, and; Chairman of Kids Projects.

Mary Ann also supported the Santa Ana community based The Wooden Floor; which in addition to teaching inner city at risk children ballet; also provides academic support and family counseling, showing the kids a path to a better future. Most recently, she funded the Mary Ann R. Finley Family Scholarship in Film and Media Arts at Chapman University, and is a member of the Charles C. Chapman Heritage Society.

Mary Ann, who loved the theatre, was a founding supporter of the Orange County Performing Arts Center, and was active in: Center Stars, having served two years as Secretary and two years as Delegate at Large; Crescendo, where she was in charge of Ways and Means; and South Coast Repertory, where she served on the Board.

Mary Ann worked as a travel consultant for many years and traveled extensively with her family and friends; including: Europe, South America, Russia, China, Africa, and the Middle East. Mary Ann loved the family trips to Hawaii, South Pacific, Spain and Alaska. She liked to play golf, enjoyed bridge, and loved to read.

Mary Ann is survived by her children and their spouses: Cheryl Finley and Barry Ellis Neal, Brent Rich Finley and Teresa Ann Loughlin, and Suzanne Finley Friend and David Andrew Friend, and her grandchildren: Brendan Finley Neal, Cara Finley Neal, Alec Finley Neal, Evan Finley Neal, Tess Sienna Finley, Tally Munroe Finley, Nathaniel Finley Friend, Gillian Finley Friend and Caroline Finley Friend. She is also survived by her sister's children in Utah; Clark Rich Burbidge, Jill Burbidge Wiscomb and Karin Burbidge Cook, and their families.
