Mrs. Leola Hilliard-Moorer departed this life on Wednesday, September 24, 2014. Leola, the second of five children, was born March 5, 1942 in Longview, Texas to the late Claude and Marjorie King.
She learned to play the piano at the age of four years. She played for several churches, including Mt. Olive Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. B. Bradley, Bethesda Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Nick Hall, Greater Williams Temple under the leadership of Bishop H. J. Williams and Truevine Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. R. B. Corley, Sr. She was assistant pianist and singer of the Wings of Harmony Gospel Group and a member of the King Family Singers of Bethel A.M.E. Church. Leola retired from the V. A. Medical Center where she was employed as a Dietician after 31 years and four months of service. She later relocated to Lawrenceville, GA. While there, she joined Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Mrs. Moorer leaves behind to cherish precious memories, her sons, Gaffney Hilliard of Battle Creek, MI and Donald (Katrina) Hilliard of Conyers, GA; daughters, Charlotte Prince of Dallas, GA and Shawn (Spencer) Green of Saginaw, MI; sisters, Mary Wright, Pearl King and Faye Hardrick; brother, Harvey (Valarie) King; God-Sisters, Beverly Willis and Micki Douglass, all of Saginaw, MI; 15 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
Leola was preceded in death by her husband, James E. Moorer; daughters, Pamela King-Floyd and Doris Hilliard; son, Fredrick (Ricky) Hilliard; grandson, Dâ€™Andre Hilliard; and baby great-granddaughter, Lauren Ginn.
