Elaine

Elaine Ruth Jacoby
May 25, 1938 – May 6, 2021
Elaine moved to Colorado as a young girl, grew up, married, and gave birth to her three daughters there. She made many good friends who she remained close to even after she moved to Arizona in her retirement.
She thoroughly enjoyed life in Arizona with her beloved husband, Hal. There, she made even more friends. Elaine had a love of books and learning, which she passed along to her girls. She had a competitive spirit and enjoyed playing cards and board games with friends and family. Although she did not consider herself an athlete, she played softball as a teenager, bowled as a young adult and later in life became an enthusiastic golfer, and excelled in all these pursuits. Elaine was an amazing and creative cook. She also had a lovely singing voice and was a heck of a dancer.
Elaine raised her three daughters, one of whom was disabled, with admirable strength and dignity. Her girls were given the example of a strong, persistent, and capable woman. This allowed them to know that if they ever thought there was something they couldn’t accomplish; they had only to look to their mother to know that simply wasn’t so. She also led by example, and taught all her girls to be passionate and strong advocates for those underserved.
She lived life on her own terms and left us the same way.
Elaine is survived by Hal, family, and friends.
She was the loving mother of Debbie Tracy (deceased 1990), Cheryl (Joe) Hughes and Melinda (Gustaf) Soderbergh. When she married Hal, her family expanded to include her dear stepchildren Hal (Phyllis) Jacoby, Pam (John) McNaughton and Ken Jacoby.
Elaine cherished her grandchildren: Justin, Nicole (Renee), Lauran, Alexa, Evan, Rachael, Declan, Marie, Erik, Karl, and Marie. She was a caring great-grandmother to Alana, Nathan, Gabriel and Liam.
She was the devoted half-sister of Ruth Roeske and Joseph Ashcroft (deceased 2001).
Elaine left the world a better place than she found it, and she will be profoundly missed.
The family will be having a memorial to celebrate Elaine’s life at 10:00 on the morning of August 28, 2021. The memorial will take place at The Mountaineer, 79 County Road 6405 in Granby, Colorado. A reception will follow where all friends are welcome, at noon at the pavilion.
