Cecilia O. Valdez, was born in Questa, New Mexico on November 22, 1929, to Jose B. and Ferminia M. Gomez.
Cecilia was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother who passed away on October 18, 2014 after a valiant fight with cancer. She married Pacomio Valdez on April 10, 1950 at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Green River, Wyoming. They had five children, Patsy (Bob) Alzugarat, Kathy, Betty, Sally, and Patrick, and two grandchildren, Michael and Christopher. She was preceded in death by her husband and son, Patrick.
Cecilia was a hard worker who could never sit still. She stated when she was employed as a nurse she cared about her patients as though they were her family especially the elderly. When Cecilia was not taking care of her family she would spend her time volunteering for her community.
She volunteered at Lewis Elementary School assisting with the Head Start program where she received an award from Lady Bird Johnson for her dedication and commitment at the Head Start program.
She continued with her community service spending her time at St. Joseph Catholic Church. One of her favorite projects was to create and sew quilts for church raffles.
She was involved with the Council of Catholic Women over twenty years and in 2004 she received the Woman of the Year Award. She also was a devote member of the Promoters of the Sacred Heart and an Eucharistic Minister.
Cecilia enjoyed fishing, gardening, cooking, canning, her family and just keeping busy. She truly will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Thanks to all the professional medical staff who assisted with our mother.
