August Gerhard Wiechmann, 90, passed away after spending time with his family on Thanksgiving evening, Thursday, November 27, 2014.
He was born in Oldenburg, Germany on May 6, 1924 to Gerhard J. and Annchen Stolle Wiechmann. August came to the United States through Ellis Island when he was two years old. He grew up in Bronx, NY and moved to Utah after the war.
He served his country in the US Army during World War II.
On December 19, 1949, August married Ann Alene Jacobs in Pleasant Grove, Utah. They were later divorced. He married Carol Powers Kaspari on May 10, 1986 in Ogden, Utah. Carol preceded him in death February 11, 2012.
August worked as a Physical Therapist at St. Benedictâ€™s Hospital for 35 years.
He was a member of the Ogden Golf and Country Club for 55 years, the Rotary Club for 35 years, the Ogden Chamber of Commerce, and served as president of the Utah Physical Therapy Association.
His love of volunteering at the Browning Gun Museum in the Union Station continued until two weeks ago. He was an avid golfer and also enjoyed hunting, and fishing.
August is survived by his children, Ashley (Janice), Aric (Cindy), and April Ann (Bryan) Redd; stepchildren, Brian (Pamela) Kaspari, and Karen (Edward) Isaacs, Kay (Kevin) Cymbalak; 17 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Carol and sister, Erna Nixon.
